Sorting your search results

There are different ways of sorting your search results in WorldCat.

Sorting by "Library" is the default setting. Relevant materials to which you have access via Utrecht University Library will be shown at the top of the list.

If you choose a different sorting option than "Library"  but still want to see Utrecht materials first on the list, check the box Utrecht University Library under Held By Library.

Saving items and search queries (Save)

You can save items during your search. To do so, click on the "Save" button.

You will find your saved items under the link "Saved items" at the top right corner of your screen or in the list under "My Account".

Please note: If you exit WorldCat, this list will be lost. A new search session begins with an empty list.

Saving the list

If you want to save the list, you export the entire list, or individual items, to a reference management tool via the "Cite" button. Or send the items to your email address. See also the information in the box Cite, export and link.

How to find the right edition of a book

If you are looking for a specific edition of a book, the best way is to add the year of publication to your search query.

Another option is to click on "View All" (at the bottom of the item). A list will appear with all editions of a publication available in WorldCat. You can use filters to shorten the list. Titles which can be accessed via Utrecht University Library are on top.

If you want to see all editions from the start of your search, you can check the box "Show all" under Search Results Display, to the top left of the search results list.

Cite, export and link (Cite en Share)

WorldCat can format references in a number of different citation styles. Click the "Cite" option for individual publications or for a selection of publications in the list under "Saved Items" (see Saving search items). You can copy the formatted references or export them directly to a reference management tool.

Please note: WorldCat does not offer the option to export all of your search results in one go.

You can share items (without citation formatting) by filling in the email form or by copying the link ("Copy link") and paste it in a new email or in a document. Both options can be found under the button "Share".
